What We Do
Mission and Approach
PACE believes that everyone deserves a second chance; that everyone is capable, once provided the right tools, of becoming a responsible, productive member of society.
PACE accepts anyone who has a felony conviction and needs assistance.
Transitional and Pre-Release Services
Returning from incarceration can sometime be more daunting than expected. Studies have shown that the first 30 days out of prison can determine if a person returns to a life of crime, or not. Through PACE’s Transitional and Pre-Release services clients develop their transitional plan which first and foremost identifies their barriers to reentry and sets forth a plan to remove these barriers. The most common barriers clients face are identification, shelter, food, clothing and transportation. All clients are assigned a case manager that they work with throughout their transition and beyond.
Pre-Employment Services
Ex-offenders face the greatest barriers to employment because of their felony conviction; PACE seeks to assist these clients with providing the tools and resources necessary to secure stable employment. PACE believes that securing employment is very important to transitioning back into the community but more importantly the client’s barriers must be removed first in order to maintain stable employment. Therefore, prior to beginning the Job Readiness program, each client has secured housing, acquired appropriate clothing, obtained transportation, secured child care (if needed), acquired proper legal identification, and has enrolled in or completed any necessary education or training.
In conjunction with the ongoing case management, clients then participate in the Job Readiness program which first focuses on resume development and career planning. Once a resume is created and a career track is determined clients begin to learn proper interviewing skills and techniques, communication and relationship skills, roles and responsibilities, and most importantly – how to respond to questions about their felony convictions. These programs, services and workshops are ongoing to clients, even after they graduate from the program they are always welcome to return for additional assistance.
Job Development and Placement
The cornerstone of PACE’s success has been through their job development and placement success. PACE actively seeks out, creates and maintains relationships with employers who then hire PACE clients.
All clients who have successfully completed their pre-employment services and programs then participate in the PACE Job Club which discusses current employment opportunities. Additionally, clients continue to work with their specific case manager and/or the employment case manager on employment needs and to ensure that each client is remaining on their successful transitional accountability plan.
