I’ve Changed

By: Christian Morris

My past was something that put my family through a lot. It all started when I was eight years old. In addition to being in and out of juvenile eleven times, I was also in Koala and Charter. I went to boy school for eleven months and nine days. After I got out of boy school, I stayed out of trouble for awhile until I was arrested and served 3 years, 7 months and 21 days in jail.  I was released from jail 5 months ago on September 7, 2007. While serving my time I realized that it was time to make some changes within myself so that I can get my life together.

My experience in the YES program at PACE/OAR, is one of the best experiences I have had with any program dealing with ex-offenders, like myself.  My case manager, Mr. Hughes helped me with job leads, bus fare, and more. I can see that he and the other people at PACE/OAR and the YES program really care about people with convictions. The program has helped me get a job so I can save money and get me a car in a month they also taught me the skills needed to obtain and maintain a job.

My life is going good right now. I see my life coming together piece by piece. Soon I will have a car and I plan on going back to school for culinary arts. I enjoy cooking and I want to make a career out of it one day. Right now I am working fulltime and I would like to look for a job where I can work nights so I can attend school during the day.

My word of advice is to give it time, like I have and things will work out for you. I have learned that the results that I want will not come fast and easy, but with time, patience, dedication, and determination all things are possible.
